How To Care For Leather
Everyday Care
1. Take extra care with leather items you use often. Take the time each week to wipe away dust and spots with a soft cloth or brush.
2. Scratches can detract from a flawlessly crafted piece. Take care to avoid contact with heavy embellished clothes, sharp surfaces or chunky jewelry when you're out and about.
3. Wet leather requires extra care, so if rain is forecast, remember to take an umbrella.
4. Remember to air your leather goods out occasionally to remove any unwanted smells and scents.
Clean
1. Every BONZ leather garment is fully dry-cleanable. Full cleaning instructions for use by the dry cleaner are permanently sewn into your garment. A specialist leather dry cleaner will use a process to put back some of these oils during the cleaning cycle.
2. Most small marks can be removed by rubbing lightly with a good quality, soft composition eraser. When using an eraser, vary the direction and use a number of light strokes rather than one or two heavy strokes.
3. Sometimes discoloration can occur leaving a lighter area where you have rubbed. This can usually be restored quite easily by replacing it with some natural body oil, e.g. rub the discolored spot lightly across the palm of your hand in a circular motion.
4. Do not use a harsh abrasive eraser, sandpaper or suede brush. These products are for use only on much heavier suede such as footwear.
Maintain
Leather Care can help maintain your product longer. We recommend conditioning your leather every 6 months. If you are in a dryer climate, we recommend you condition your product as soon as it feels less supple, dull or faded. Vegetable tanning conditioned should make the garment feel slightly oiled but look rich.
Storage
Storing your leather appropriately is one of the easiest ways you can prevent damage and maintain a high-quality finish:
1. Store leather away from direct sunlight as this can cause fading.
2. Store leather goods in a dust bag to avoid scratches. Avoid using plastic bags, they prevent good ventilation.
3. Store leather away from artificial sources of heat.
